Letter from the Directors

September 2015

While the memories of our last edition still linger like an echo in our minds, with the presence of our special Spanish guest Martín Fiz, who participated in the 21K race distance, with more than 2,500 registered runners, 24 countries being represented and a race that still excites us, we are very pleased to launch the 7th edition of Patagonia Run Mountain Hardwear, which will be held in San Martín de los Andes on April 8th and 9th 2016.

There is no doubt that the challenge of improving ourselves makes us work extremely hard day after day. This is the reason why we have been working in the new trail courses since the end of 2015 edition, as we’d like to offer you, the runners, the best possible trail running experience.

The first decision that we made was to extent the 120K (which was almost 125K) to the new 130K race distance. The 2016 trail race includes 6 distances: 10K, 21K, 42K, 70K, 100K and 130K.
This decision has a fundamental principle: Patagonia Run will officially give 5 qualification points for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, one of the top elite trail race worldwide.
In view of the evaluation criteria adopted by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and the implementation of the new scale, the following race rankings will be applied: 42K – 2 points; 70K – 3 points, 100K – 5 points and 130K – 5 points.

Furthermore, in the 2016 edition we have eliminated most of the final urban area of the course so as to reach the final part of the race running through paths and trails that is what we believe you are searching for in Patagonia Run…We hope that you enjoy the course changes!

In a year that has not been easy for our region, we keep reaffirming our strong and long-standing commitment towards the runners, our sponsors and the whole community of San Martín de los Andes.

This year, unlike previous years, we are offering a promotional registration fee, only for a 10-day period. After this date, registration will be closed until the first days of October when we’ll come back with the definite fees and available spots. Participants, who have signed up during that time, will guarantee their place in the race and they will also enjoy the benefit of a discounted fee.

This year the race packet has been updated: We are returning to the excellent quality short-sleeved shirt, provided by Mountain Hardware and will include, for the ultra distance runners, a thermal shirt. The distances of 42K, 21K and 10K will receive an additional gift in race packet.

We would like to thank our main sponsor, Mountain Hardware (from Columbia’s group), for placing their trust in us for the 5th consecutive year. We’d also like to thank the Municipality of San Martin de los Andes, the Lanín National Park Authorities, the Mapuche, Curruhinca and Cajún communities, and the Cavalry Regiment, without their support and cooperation, none of this would have been possible.

We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the companies that have joined us throughout the years: Coca Cola, Powerade, SER and Dublin.

Lastly, we would like to thank you, the runners, who have turned Patagonia Run into a real party of the International Trail Running. Your recognition affirms that we are on the correct path.

Continue training; the new challenge you have chosen is approaching, whichever distance you are doing… each runner represents to us a new opportunity to reach our goal: to be the trail run race that everyone wants to run.

Welcome to Patagonia Run 2016, see you at the start line!

Gabriela Azcárate and Mariano Alvarez Directors of Patagonia Run Mountain Hardwear 2016
